COMPONENTS OF DIET as Food is the basic requirement of every individual which develops our body. It provides sufficient energy for workout and helps in the growth and development of individual. The food which we eat contains various nutrients which is essential for body.

NUTRITIVE COMPONENTS OF DIET
There are large number of nutrients required in our balanced diet. Some of them are “Nutritive components” like Carbohydrates, Fats, and Proteins. Whereas some the other components of diet are also required which are “Non-Nutritive Components” such as Vitamins, Minerals , Water and Roughage (Fibers).
COMPONENTS OF DIET:NUTRITIVE
Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for almost all activities of the individual. It is major fuel for muscular contraction. Carbohydrates are the compounds of carbon, Hydrogen and oxygen. Dieticians recommended 60 to 70 percent of carbohydrates in our diet where majority of the content should be complex carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are of two types:-
● Simple carbohydrates: These carbohydrates contain vitamins and minerals. Sources of simple carbohydrates are fruits, low fat milk, table sugar, jam, honey etc.
● Complex carbohydrates: Complex carbohydrates are starches which contain various types of sugar molecules combined chemically to form glycogen. They are good sources of vitamins and fibres. These carbohydrates are found in bread, cereals, vegetables, dal, rajma etc.
Proteins are the basic structure of all living cells. These are of two types:
● Essential proteins: There are nine essential amino acids which are taken from food and they are not made in body.
Sources of essential proteins are pulses, milk, egg, meat etc.
● Non-essential proteins: There are more than 13 non-essential proteins. These are required in very less quantity.
Sources of non-essential proteins are grains, fruits, vegetables.
Fats contain atom of carbon, Hydrogen, and oxygen. Fats helps during blood clothing, maintenance of skin and hair. Our diet should consists of 5 to 10 percent of fat. Higher intake of fats increases risk of obesity and many heart diseases.
COMPONENTS OF DIET: NON-NUTRITIVE
Vitamins are complex compounds of carbon. These are required in very small amount to keep our body healthy. They donot provide energy but help to repair and maintenance of various tissues.
These are of two types:
● Water-soluble vitamins
Minerals contain certain elements required by our body . They are needed in small quantity but they are very essential for proper growth and development of body. The important minerals required by our body are:
