Each types of communication appears to have distinctive features, they are all much alike in the sense that one enters into a meaningful relationships with one or more persons by means of signs and symbols.
VARIOUS DIMENSIONS OF COMMUNICATION:- EXPLAINATION WITH EXAMPLES
The following discussion on types of communication will provide us with the understanding of different communication situations in which people interact with each other:-
When Communication taking place between human beings and non-human beings is called extrapersonal communication.
For example:- when your parrot responding to your talk and queries we call it as extrapersonal communication.
•Interpersonal and Intrapersonal:-
When Communication taking place between two or more persons we call it interpersonal communication. But when the communication is going on within a person’s own mind, it is known as Intrapersonal communication. It will help in conveying one’s message more clearly and effectively.
•One-way and Two-way Communication:- In one way communication only the sender sends the message. There is no response from the receiver. Radio and TV, news readers are an example of one-way communication.
In two-way communication,there is chances of response and feedback from the receiver.
•Verbal and Non-verbal communication:-
Verbal communication is the communication conducted orally or in writing. Oral communication can be face to face or through conferencing, or video conferencing system. Written communication can be in the form of letters, email, fax etc.
Non-verbal Communication is neither oral or nor written. It can be through body language, expression, postures, gestures and signals.
Non-verbal communication can be as effective as verbal communication.
•Formal and Informal communication:-
Formal communication is conducted formally. It’s always taken place in departments, offices, meetings, interviews, conference etc.
Informal Communication is always taking place between friends, family, relatives. The communication is in an informal way.
•Group, public and Mass Communication:-
When interpersonal communication is carried on between two or more persons, it is called group communication.
When one person is speaking to a large group of people at one time, it is called public communication.
The process of communicating with large and different groups of people by the use of print media, Tv, internet, films etc. Is called mass communication.
