Women are equally important in society and have been taking active part in social activities. Women sports include participation of women in professional and amateur competition. Today modern society has accepted the women’s participation in sports competition and it has risen to a great extent as compared in the past. In Ancient olmypic Games, women are not allowed to participate but in modern olympic games female has been active member. CAUSES OF LESS PARTICIPATION OF INDIAN WOMEN IN SPORTS

There are various causes of less participation of Indian women in sports but the common causes are as below:

● WRONG SOCIAL AND CULTURAL TRADITION: In india there are various traditions and Indian society is male dominated. These male dominating traditions are followed strongly in indian Society.

LACK OF FAMILY SUPPORT:

Indian family has very strong bonds and they restrain women to go outside alone. Thus indian women face non-supports from family to participate in sports.

● LACK OF FINANCES:

Competitive games and sports are expensive as player requires good diet, good equipments and proper training. Thus lack of finances of sponsors hampers the women to participate in competitive sports.

WOMEN PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES

MENARCHE: Menarche is the beginning of menstrual cycle or first menstrual bleeding in female. It shows the girl’s transition to womenhood. Girls experience menarche between 12 to 14 years of age. It varies in females due to biological, genetical, environmental and nutritional factors.If complication arises during menarche due to physical activity, female should consult gynaecologist or doctor.

MENSTRUAL DYSFUNCTION:

It is a disorder or irregular condition on women’s menstrual cycle. Menstrual Dysfunction can be defined as abnormal bleeding in absence of intra-cavitary. Most of the menstrual cycle occurs after every 22 to 35 days. During menstrual dysfunction most of the women complain about breast pain, back pain , cramps, headache etc.

The common name for pregnancy is “GESTATION”. It is the development of one or more offspring known as embryo or fetus in uterus. Pregnancy stage is delicate for women as well as offspring. It needs special care to pregnant women, physically, and emotionally. She needs regular check up , hygienic food, no to alcohol , drugs etc.

The benefits of physical activity during pregnancy are:

  • It helps to sleep better and feel less tired.

It is cessation of women’s reproductive ability.  It is a natural change. It occurs in every woman in midlife between 45 to 50 years of age. It is a stage of uterus and absence of menstrual flow or periods.

This condition is seen in females, participating in sports that emphasize leanness or low body weight. The triad is a serious illness with lifelong health consequences and can potentially be fatal.

In india the women participation in sports is also improving as compared to past. Indian women athletes have shown better results as compared to men in international competitions. Indian women are facing lot of problems for participation in sports like: ill socio-cultural tradition; lack of family support; lack of finance; lack of girl safety; lack of media support etc.
